From Safari to the discovery of the Sahel and the South-East
10 days and 9 nights to discover Dori, Aribrinda, Ouahigouya, Tiebele, Nazinga and Ouagadougou
Located in the far north of Burkina Faso, the Sahel region covers an area of 36,166 km², or 13.3% of the national territory. The SAHEL, meaning “border region” in Arabic, crosses Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. The Region is populated by nomadic pastoralists and farmers. We will be welcomed by a diversity of ethnic groups: Tuareg, Peul, Songhaï, Bella, and Gourmantché. The climate is arid Sahelian characterized by the alternation of two seasons: a long dry season generally from October to May and a short rainy season from June to September. It is marked by low, irregular rainfall and the average annual rainfall is 400 mm. We will end our journey in the Nazinga Reserve in the South East which is located a few kilometers from the Ghana border, the Nazinga Reserve was created in 1979 and covers an area of 91,300 hectares. Well preserved, it is home to more than 20,000 animals, including 39 species of mammals. The reserve is home to elephants, several species of antelopes (roan antelope, waterbuck, oribi, reed and Buffon’s kob), hyenas, warthogs, crocodiles and many species of primates including red monkeys and baboons.
Day 1: Hexagon - Ouagadougou
Welcome by our correspondent at the International airport, transfer to the hotel in Ouagadougou, installation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Ouagadougou - Dori 269 km
Day 3.4: Dori - Gorom Gorom - Oursi 101 km
Breakfasts and departure for Oursi via Gorom Gorom, two days of visit through the dunes of the Sahel, visit of the Women’s Handicraft Center of Gorom, a cooperative group that was created in 1984 with the aim of diversifying economic resources, continuation, arrival followed by the installation at the hostel, visit to the picturesque and colorful Gorom market (which only takes place on Thursdays, lunch and visit of the Oursi ornithological water pool which is essential for wintering migratory birds. It is the ideal place for bird watchers. Camel ride in the oases and villages to explore the dunes will allow us to admire the beauty of the Sahel, return to the hostel, dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Oursi - Gandefabou - Aribinda 120 km
Breakfast, off-piste departure to reach Aribinda, observation of magnificent rock carvings on the sacred hills, continuation of the trip, arrival and installation at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Aribinda - Ouahigouya 204 km
Day 7: Ouahigouya - Ouagadougou 182 km
Day 8: Ouagadougou - Tiebele 178 km
Day 9: Tiebele - Nazinga Reserve
Breakfast, formalities for entering the Nazinga reserve, vision safari in the Nazinga reserve. The reserve is home to 32 species of animals. There are found Elephants, cob of fassa, monkeys, hippotragus, warthogs, buffaloes, etc…, at the end, we will visit the Peak of Nahouri in Songo, dinner and overnight at the Nazinga ranch.
Day 10: Nazinga Reserve - Ouagadougou 178 km
